Germany is preparing to change how projects compete for scarce grid connections. Under the government’s 2026 grid connection package (Netzanschlusspaket,) grid access would move away from an exclusively “first come, first served” approach toward “first ready, first served,” while allowing certain connection requests to be prioritized.
For renewable-energy and battery developers, that makes grid availability and project readiness increasingly important to site selection and development timelines. The proposal is still moving through the legislative process and may change before becoming law.
Dalio Partners tracks these developments and incorporates their commercial implications into market-entry and project planning.
