The EU's 2026 AI Omnibus extended two major AI Act deadlines without removing the underlying requirements.
- February 2025:
- prohibited AI practices and AI-literacy provisions began applying.
- August 2025:
- general-purpose AI obligations began applying.
- December 2027:
- high-risk requirements for Annex III systems take effect.
- August 2028:
- high-risk requirements for AI embedded in regulated products take effect.
The delay gives companies additional implementation time, not an exemption. For AI companies entering Europe, Dalio Partners incorporates that runway into product, regulatory and market-entry planning so requirements such as documentation, logging and human oversight can be considered before launch.
